El Dictator, Facebook (English article)

So, Facebook is becoming a dictator, which will only lead me to disable all my accounts from this ‘social website’.

Apart from all the absurd bans I’ve got over the years (i.e. for nudity in pictures with famous works of art, for changing my profile name, for using a fake profile name, etc.) this time it really pissed me off.

So today I was posting a link to my blog in 4 (FOUR!!!) groups and Facebook decided to ban me from posting in groups for the following 24 hours and, as a bonus, I asked me to confirm that it is my account by sending me a sms to my mobile phone and asking me to change my password (again, for no apparent reason).

After I’ve confirmed that it is my account (wow, I’ve been using this account from the same PC and ip for years, but I still need to confirm it’s me) and changed my password (forced to, not willing to) it took me to a page about Facebook bans which says:

“Facebook has policies in place to stop behavior that other people may find annoying or abusive. We’ve determined that you used a feature in a way that could be considered abusive, even if you didn’t mean to.

A few things to keep in mind about your block:

  • Blocks are temporary and can last a few hours or a few days
  • We can’t lift this block for any reason

To keep from getting blocked again, please slow down or stop this behavior (ex: send fewer messages each day, only tag people in photos they’re actually in). Otherwise, your account could be permanently disabled.”

So, Facebook, what’s next? Asking for my personal identification number, real address, date and place of birth etc as obligatory? Not allowing me to text anyone I want and when I want?

No problem. I’ve made a back-up of my profile and in case anything happens, I’ll return and fuck the shit out of their “rules”. This is no longer freedom, it’s dictatorship.
